Baseball Recap: Chino Hills Find Success

Chino Hills took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against Etiwanda, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles on Friday, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Huskies have posted since March 19th.

Aydan Maxson tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Branden Kim was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Josh Mendez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Chino Hills hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive contests.

Chino Hills' win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Etiwanda, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-10-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chino Hills will challenge rival Damien at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Etiwanda is set to face off against their familiar foe Rancho Cucamonga at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.7, the Cougars 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
