The Massac County Patriots will square off against the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Massac County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Massac County took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Crab Orchard. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Adan Mizell was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Max Elliott and Zach Maurer did most of the damage at the plate: Elliott went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Maurer went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Maurer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Musselman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Massac County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crab Orchard only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel fell victim to Carmi-White County and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 10-0. The Golden Aces have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mt. Carmel saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Smith, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Massac County, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
Massac County's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Patriots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game.
