Basketball Game Preview: Rio Rancho Rams vs. Volcano Vista Hawks

Rio Rancho is 0-10 against Volcano Vista since April of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Rio Rancho Rams will host the Volcano Vista Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Rio Rancho is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Farmington, who was ranked 20th at the time (Rio Rancho was ranked 18th). Rio Rancho fell 67-57 to Farmington on Thursday. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Volcano Vista entered their tilt with Piedra Vista on Thursday with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. They took their game with ease, bagging a 98-45 victory over the Panthers. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Volcano Vista's win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-2. As for Rio Rancho, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.

Rio Rancho took a serious blow against Volcano Vista in their previous matchup back in January, falling 77-32. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Rio Rancho was down 43-19.
