Softball Game Preview: Santana Sultans vs. Calexico Bulldogs

Santana is a perfect 3-0 against Calexico since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Sultans will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.

Santana barely beat Valhalla the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sultans never let the Norsemen get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Friday. The Sultans not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th (when they won 10-0).

The result came thanks to Bella Zuckerman's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Schneider, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenna Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Calexico had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four last Thursday. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 9-1 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Calexico pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Santana, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.

Santana took their win against Calexico when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Sultans repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
