The Regis Jesuit Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Ponderosa Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games Regis Jesuit has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Regis Jesuit needed a bit of extra time to put away ThunderRidge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Grizzlies. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won seven in a row.
The team relied heavily on Diesel Bernosky, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Olson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Regis Jesuit was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ThunderRidge only posted a batting average of .212.
Meanwhile, Ponderosa never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Douglas County as they made off with a 15-0 win. The match marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season.
Nick Moe looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Isai Santaella was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. He has become a key player for Ponderosa: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Ethan Alejo was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Ponderosa is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Regis Jesuit, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Regis Jesuit hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ponderosa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Regis Jesuit's way against Ponderosa in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Regis Jesuit made off with a 12-6 win. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
