Baseball Game Preview: Colbert County Indians vs. Belgreen Bulldogs

The Colbert County Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Belgreen Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Colbert County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Danville, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's game. Colbert County was the clear victor by a 17-5 margin over Danville on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by exactly 12 runs.

Wesley Chaney made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Dylan Castle and Peyton Gargis did most of the damage at the plate: Castle scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances, while Gargis scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Colbert County is undefeated when Castle posts two or more runs, but 1-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Greyson Owens, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Colbert County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .569. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .569 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Belgreen won against Colbert Heights on Saturday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Belgreen came out on top against Wilson by a score of 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Colbert County's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10. As for Belgreen, their record now sits at 8-5.

Colbert County took their victory against Belgreen in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0. Does Colbert County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Belgreen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
