Football Game Preview: Lowellville Rockets vs. Springfield Tigers + How To Watch

The Lowellville Rockets will take on the Springfield Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Springfield took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lowellville, who comes in off a win.

Lowellville had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 26-point drubbing they dealt Waterloo on Friday. The Rockets put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 40-14 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won six in a row.

Lowellville can attribute much of their success to Ricky Willrich, who threw for 141 yards and four TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes, and Daniel Huff, who rushed for 83 yards and one score on only seven carries. Willrich's passing game has become a key predictor of the Rockets' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-5 otherwise.

Lowellville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Waterloo's QB won't forget Landen Tych anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Tych is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Springfield unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 7-6 to McDonald. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Lowellville's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Springfield, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Lowellville took a serious blow against Springfield in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 43-12. Thankfully for the Rockets, Dante Gentile (who rushed for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
