Baseball Game Preview: Chartiers Valley Colts vs. Montour Spartans

The Chartiers Valley Colts are taking a road trip to face off against the Montour Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Montour took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Chartiers Valley, who comes in off a win.

Chartiers Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They skirted past Moon Area 8-6.

Colton Koza made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Chartiers Valley is 2-1 when Koza allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Koza was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Prosperi, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Montour fell victim to Thomas Jefferson and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 1-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Spartans were not able to get on the board.

Montour moved to 4-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Chartiers Valley, their record now sits at 5-7.

Chartiers Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Montour when the teams last played back in May of 2022, winning 7-3. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
