Baseball Game Preview: Helena Huskies vs. Hoover Buccaneers

Helena hasn't had much luck against Hoover recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Huskies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Helena 3.7, Hoover 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Helena took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Vestavia Hills, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies had just enough and edged out the Rebels 7-6 on Wednesday. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Helena got a great performance from Justin Mullenix as he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

At the plate, Helena saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Campbell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was Campbell's first of the season. Sam Odom was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Helena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Hoover got themselves on the board against Mill Creek on Saturday, but Mill Creek never followed suit. They blew past the Hawks 11-0. The contest marked the Buccaneers' most dominant victory of the season so far.

The win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Hoover, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Helena skirted past Hoover 1-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Buccaneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
