Softball Recap: Melrose Red Raiders vs. Arlington Spy Ponders

Melrose extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-8 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Arlington Spy Ponders. If the Red Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 19-1 to the Spy Ponders when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Arlington, they moved to 4-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by eight runs or more this season.

For Arlington's part, Soline Fisher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Fisher was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Arlington got a big performance out of Zanna Felton-Quinn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Shai Forest, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Melrose will head out on the road to challenge Westport at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Arlington, they will square off against Watertown at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 23 runs per game on average), something the Spy Ponders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
