Soccer Preview: St. Stephens vs. North Iredell

St. Stephens and North Iredell are an even 4-4 against one another since August of 2019, but likely not for long. The St. Stephens Indians are taking a road trip to take on the North Iredell Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

St. Stephens fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Foard on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. One thing that sure didn't help the Indians was the trouble they got from the refs, as Benji Coronado and Addison Parker were both handed red cards.

Carter Shanks and Maximo DiNardo scored both of St. Stephens' goals, bringing their combined season tally to eight goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Iredell). Their defense stepped up to hand Foard a 5-0 shutout on Wednesday. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Tigers are ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Stephens' defeat dropped their record down to 5-8-2. As for North Iredell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3-2 record this season.

St. Stephens beat North Iredell by a goal in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Stephens since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
