Softball Recap: Logan Takes a Loss

Logan extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They came up short against the McCurdy Bobcats, falling 16-1. The Longhorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2019.

As for McCurdy, their record is now 7-14. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

For McCurdy's part, Gabriela Velasquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Velasquez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matches.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mariana Arambula, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Amanda Tafoya was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Logan will challenge Raton at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McCurdy, they will take on Wingate at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.92 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
