Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Mica Mountain

Mica Mountain came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Douglas Bulldogs with a sharp 12-4 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Thunderbolts also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2025.

Ace Heston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Payton Knight was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Caeli Shellenbarger, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Mica Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Douglas, they moved to 9-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Mica Mountain will face off against Cienega at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Thunderbolts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Douglas, they will square off against Sahuarita at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Mustangs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
