Baseball Game Preview: Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals vs. Heyworth Hornets

The Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals will square off against the Heyworth Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Warrensburg-Latham is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Last Monday, Warrensburg-Latham got the win against St. Teresa by a conclusive 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Nathan Southern made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

Southern wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dawson Waterhouse, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Waterhouse is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another was Brody Brown, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Heyworth unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 8-2 to Maroa-Forsyth. The game marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Heyworth's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Warrensburg-Latham, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Warrensburg-Latham has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Heyworth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
