Basketball Recap: Lamar Silver Foxes vs. Central Eagles
After flying high against Central Academy last Friday, Lamar came back down to earth. The Lamar Silver Foxes were outmatched by the Central Eagles and fell 67-40. The Silver Foxes lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in January of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 54-49 score last time.
Lamar's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Messiah Sims, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds. Lamont Williams was another key player, putting up six points in addition to 12 boards and three blocks.
Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tazhir Webber out in front who posted 18 points and eight assists. Webber is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Myers, who had 21 points and five assists.
Lamar's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lamar will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on C.A.
