Basketball Preview: Wekiva Mustangs vs. South Lake Eagles
The Wekiva Mustangs are on the road again on Tuesday and plays the South Lake Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Wekiva came up short against the Knights and fell 64-56. While losing is never fun, Wekiva can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Knights are ranked 80th).
Meanwhile, South Lake didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Bulldogs on Friday, but they still walked away with a 62-57 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for South Lake.
Wekiva has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for South Lake, their win bumped their record up to 14-10.
Everything came up roses for Wekiva against the Eagles in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 81-54 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wekiva since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
