League recap: Newton tops Hardin to extend winning streak

Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region III District 10 this week, Newton beat Hardin 63-3. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.

Warren scaled the state rankings by moving to 933 from 986 this week, the biggest jump in the league.

Newton's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Roney Elam threw for 140 and 2 touchdowns and Calum Foster had 59 yards receiving. On the ground Brandon Johnson contributed 101 yards. Keyaun Seastrunk helped Newton's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 48 yards.

W.T. Johnston's team's dynamic duo of Elam and Foster proved to be unstoppable against the Hornets, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Seastrunk helped Newton's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 48 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Anahuac's Josh Cooper and Byron Riggs have proven to be a lethal combination. Cooper has thrown for 839 yards this season, while Riggs has 21 catches for 468 yards. Johnson from the Eagles leads the league in rushing with 1,157 yards.

An important game coming up in 2A-1 Region III District 10 this week will be when Kirbyville takes on the Warriors. At the moment, the Wildcats are in second, while Warren is in fifth.

Newton took down Hardin 63-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Elam ran for 22 yards in the win.
