Baseball Recap: Zionsville Wins High-Profile Game Against Avon

Zionsville faced Avon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Orioles a 10-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Davis Moore, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Avon off the board. Moore has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Hughes, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Liam Salapka was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Zionsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Avon, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Zionsville will challenge Guerin Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Avon, they will take on Columbus North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
