After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Indian River, King's Fork was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Oscar Smith Tigers a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Chase Davis, who gave up just five hits to keep Oscar Smith off the board.

On the hitting side, Michael Mejia and Camden Hill did most of the damage at the plate: Mejia went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Hill got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. King's Fork is undefeated when Hill posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Mekhi Mercer was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

King's Fork's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for Oscar Smith, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

King's Fork and Oscar Smith could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Bulldogs will face off against Hickory at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (309 vs. 81). Meanwhile, Oscar Smith (ranked 190th) will meet Western Branch (ranked 24th) at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.
