Football Recap: Mary Persons' Undefeated Season over After Four Games + How To Watch

After flying high against Fayette County last Friday, Mary Persons came back down to earth. The Bulldogs lost to the Troup County Tigers on the road by a 49-35 margin on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 24-17 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Garrison Edwards had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 176 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 134 yards and three touchdowns for Troup County. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Edwards a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Javarris Warner, who rushed for 102 yards and one score on only 11 carries.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mary Persons fell to 3-1. As for Troup County, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mary Persons will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Upson-Lee at 7:30 p.m. on the 26th. As for Troup County, they will venture away from home to take on Fayette County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Troup County will be up against Fayette County's rather soft defense (which has allowed 47 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
