Basketball Game Preview: Battery Creek Dolphins vs. Hanahan Hawks

The Battery Creek Dolphins will face off against the Hanahan Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Battery Creek has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 6.

Battery Creek lost 43-23 to Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Dolphins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Bruins are ranked 93rd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hanahan). They blew past North Charleston 57-16 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Hanahan found their leader in sophomore Bri Johnsen, who posted nine points and seven steals. Johnsen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 30 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Allen, who scored eight points and five steals.

Hanahan has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Battery Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Battery Creek might still be hurting after the 50-25 loss they got from Hanahan in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Battery Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
