Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Chipley

Chipley proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 26) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Walton Braves 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Karley Welch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kenzlee Nelson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Ava Chadwell was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Chipley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Chipley's record is now 8-3. As for Walton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Coming up, Chipley is taking a road trip to face off against Sneads at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Walton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Holmes County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Walton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Holmes County has averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
