Dove Creek dropped their record down to 9-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Nucla Mustangs by a score of 11-10. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 5-1.

Sheldon Gardner was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Frankey Montoya stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Trevan Ivie, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Nucla, they pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 8th.

On Nucla's side, the team relied heavily on Josh Platt, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Platt has become a key player for the Mustangs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Brycen Rummel was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Nucla beat Dove Creek by a score of 12-11 later that day.
