Softball Recap: The Academy Takes a Loss

The Academy extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 7-10. They fell 12-9 to the Weld Central Rebels. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rebels earlier this season, when they won 13-8.

Finley Stark was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-4. Savannah Tolitsky was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Weld Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Weld Central's side, Ally Landers was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Landers has posted since back in August of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Collins-Gottschalk, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI.

Coming up, The Academy will face off against Fort Lupton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Bluedevils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Weld Central, their road trip will continue as they head out to face Silver Creek at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
