The power rankings have experienced a modest tune-up after last week's playoff battles. We'll tackle all that (plus a new number one team) in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Berks Catholic got a 49 - 21 win over Milton Hershey last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Brandon George (cornelius). George (cornelius) ran for 70 yards and also punched in three touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out George (cornelius) as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Haddonfield and Camden, 5th and 11th in the power rankings, respectively. Haddonfield finished its game with a 23 - 12 win. Nevertheless, it did not have enough punch to impress the power rankings algorithm and slipped one spot in the rankings.
Movin on Up
Woodrow Wilson not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Burlington Township in every quarter. Woodrow Wilson was able to grind out a solid victory over Burlington Township, winning 22 - 14. Senior Nick Kargman was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he tossed the ball for 221 yards and three TDs). The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 16, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between St. Augustine Prep (12th in the power rankings) and Williamstown (4th). This will be the second home game in a row for Williamstown. Both the Williamstown and St. Augustine Prep defenses have allowed few points this year (averaging 6.54 ppg and seven ppg, respectively), so the teams might find scoring more difficult than usual this week.
