Baseball Recap: Leon Takes a Loss

Leon extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 10-12. They lost 15-5 to the North Florida Christian Eagles. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 10-9.

Caleb Knipple made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Leon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 8-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Hubbard, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

As for North Florida Christian, their win bumped their record up to 8-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On North Florida Christian's side, they got a massive performance out of Jason Freeman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs Freeman has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Eli Mercer, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Leon will be playing at home against FAMU DRS at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Baby Rattlers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for North Florida Christian, they are taking a road trip to square off against Maclay at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
