Softball Recap: Desoto Central Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

DeSoto Central waltzed into their game on Monday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They put the hurt on the Southaven Chargers with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Makayla Jamison made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Londen Armstrong and Colby Young did most of the damage at the plate: Armstrong scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Young scored a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Young has posted since back in February. Maddie Hudson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

DeSoto Central pushed their record up to 22-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Southaven, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-11.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. DeSoto Central is set to challenge their familiar foe Hernando at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Jaguars 2.2, the Tigers 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Southaven will face off against rival Oxford at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
