The Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons will venture away from home to challenge the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Doral Academy Red Rock comes in on nine and Sierra Vista on three.
Doral Academy Red Rock's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Bonanza 13-0. Considering the Dragons have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hailey Ufer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Rodriguez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Gabriella Spinner was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Doral Academy Red Rock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .314 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Sierra Vista hadn't done well against Basic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Wolves.
Like Doral Academy Red Rock, Sierra Vista also got a great game from a two-way player: Reagan Foglia. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Foglia was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Doral Academy Red Rock's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Sierra Vista, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Everything went Doral Academy Red Rock's way against Sierra Vista in their previous meeting on April 9th, as Doral Academy Red Rock made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
