Recap: Socastee Braves vs. Christian Academy Saints
It was a good run, but the Socastee Braves unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Christian Academy. Socastee was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Christian Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Socastee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anna Reese Pratt, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Pratt has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bri Smith, who scored eight points.
Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Owens, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Owens has scored at least a third of Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Rumley, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Socastee's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Socastee will take on Sumter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sumter is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. As for Christian Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Florence Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Florence Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Friday.
