Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Benzie Central's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Benzie Central lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lake City, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. The Huskies put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 16-7 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jerimiah Wilkinson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Wilkinson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Brooks, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Benzie Central is undefeated when Brooks posts two or more runs, but 2-4-1 otherwise. Lane Sanchez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Benzie Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 11.

Benzie Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lake City, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benzie Central will welcome Reed City at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lake City, they will take on Roscommon at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
