Softball Game Preview: Middletown Mustangs vs. St. Helena Saints

Middletown is 0-10 against St. Helena since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will host the Saints at 4:00 p.m.

Middletown is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Thursday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fort Bragg.

Meanwhile, St. Helena entered their tilt with Lower Lake on Friday with 12 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 13. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Tahlia Smith made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Glakeler, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

St. Helena's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Middletown, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.
