Softball Recap: Mulberry Grove Takes a Loss

Mulberry Grove made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Staunton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Aces fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Aces couldn't push the score so high this time.

Lily Johnson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Mulberry Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Staunton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-2.

Mulberry Grove and Staunton should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Aces will take on Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (230 vs. 552). Meanwhile, Staunton (ranked 107th) will meet Pana (ranked 270th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
