Softball Game Preview: Guthrie Bluejays vs. Midwest City Bombers

The Guthrie Bluejays will head out to square off against the Midwest City Bombers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither Guthrie nor Midwest City posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Guthrie came into this matchup off a tough 15-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Perry by a score of 4-2 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bluejays have suffered since August 12th.

Emry Hebensperger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brylan Shephard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Midwest City suffered their biggest loss since September 5, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Carl Albert, falling 8-1. The Bombers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Guthrie's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Midwest City, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.

Guthrie skirted past Midwest City 2-1 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
