Basketball Game Preview: Perry-Lecompton Kaws vs. Valley Falls Dragons

The Perry-Lecompton Kaws are taking a road trip to challenge the Valley Falls Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Perry-Lecompton took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 59-49 win over Rossville. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Kaws' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 96th).

Meanwhile, everything went Valley Falls' way against Jefferson County North on Friday as Valley Falls made off with a 65-45 win. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Perry-Lecompton better focus on containing Trenten VanHoutan and Collin Kearney as the pair were huge in Valley Falls' win. VanHoutan went 7 of 12 on his way to 23 points and six rebounds, while Kearney dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. Kearney's morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Flint Seymour, who posted eight points and six boards.

Valley Falls pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Perry-Lecompton, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Perry-Lecompton didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Valley Falls in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 55-50 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Valley Falls' Zac Evans, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds.
