Football Recap: Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears vs. Pender Pendragons
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Pender Pendragons and fell 50-21. The Bears lost against the Pendragons in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 49-42 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge had strong showings from Drey Puppe, who threw for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Tanner Thompson, who picked up 100 receiving yards and one TD.
Zander Welsh had an outrageously good game for Pender as he threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also rushed for 44 yards and one score. Those 44 rushing yards gave Welsh a new career-high. Reece Heineman was in the mix too, providing Pender with two TDs.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Pender, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will venture away from home to face off against Tri County Northeast at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pender, they will square off against Clarkson/Leigh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
