Football Recap: Union City Bears vs. Cochranton Cardinals
Union City had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-1 to make it seven. They had to suffer through a 55-13 loss at the hands of the Cochranton Cardinals. The Bears lost against the Cardinals in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 21-7 score last time.
Although Union City took the loss, they still got scores from Dallas Triscuit and Kane Gregor.
As for Cochranton, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 37.5 points this season.
A big part of Cochranton's victory came down to the chemistry between Noah Carroll and his top target Walker Carroll. Noah threw for 235 yards and six TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes while Walker gained 194 total yards and four touchdowns. Garrett Irwin helped Noah out on the ground, rushing for 25 yards and one score, while also catching one touchdown.
Union City and Cochranton will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Bears are set to square off against their familiar foe Seneca at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Cochranton will take on rival Maplewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
