Baseball Game Preview: Turpin Spartans vs. Little Miami Panthers

The Turpin Spartans will square off against the Little Miami Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Turpin took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Anderson a 2-0 shutout. The two-run effort marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Meanwhile, Little Miami hadn't done well against Kings recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Knights. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Jackson Reynolds tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Little Miami's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Colin Milligan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Ian Arthur also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Turpin's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Little Miami, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Turpin came out on top in a nail-biter against Little Miami in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
