You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Can't Touch This
Bonny Eagle's 47 - 8 win over Sanford last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Will Whyte. Whyte rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns. That performance landed Whyte among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between Wells (1st in the power rankings) and Cape Elizabeth (5th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. Wells breezed past Cape Elizabeth with a final score of 40 - 14. The win raised Wells up one spot in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
There were a lot of high-scoring contests in the power rankings last week, but the 71-point effort in this one put it right at the top of the list. The final score between Foxcroft and Houlton/Hodgdon/Greater Houlton Christian Academy was a 65 - 6 blowout in Foxcroft's favor. Foxcroft did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Leavitt (6th in the power rankings) and Cape Elizabeth (5th). This will be the second consecutive road game for Leavitt. Will it repeat its success, or will Cape Elizabeth bounce back and dish team a defeat?
