Preview: Pearce Mustangs vs. Highland Park Scots
Pearce is 0-3 against Highland Park since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pearce Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Highland Park Scots at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Pearce put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Irving 49-3 at home. The win was just what Pearce needed coming off of a 56-29 defeat in their prior game.
Pearce's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Presley Harper, who threw for 390 yards and six touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Jack Mcgarry was another key contributor, picking up 144 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Highland Park had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points), and they went ahead and made it six last Thursday. They strolled past Richardson with points to spare, taking the game 34-15. Highland Park pushed the score to 34-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Richardson cut but never quite recovered from.
Pearce is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Highland Park, their win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Pearce was dealt a bruising 49-10 defeat at the hands of Highland Park when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Pearce avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
