Baseball Recap: Tyler Odom Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Smithfield-Selma

Southern Wayne's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They never let the Smithfield-Selma Spartans get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won eight in a row.

Hayden Waller made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Waller was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Southern Wayne got a big performance out of Tyler Odom, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Ben Hope was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

The Saints are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will head out on the road to challenge Fike at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Demons have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
