Colorado Academy fell victim to Holy Family and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 14-0 to the Tigers. The Mustangs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Colorado Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaden Rossiter, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Meanwhile, Dawson School had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
JD March tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Shelton Johnson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Dawson School's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Darren Sebek, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Dawson School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lyons only posted an OBP of .235.
Colorado Academy's loss dropped their record down to 12-8-1. As for Dawson School, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Colorado Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dawson School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
