League recap: Platte Canyon extends winning streak with victory over Denver Christian

Platte Canyon extended the longest winning streak in 1A Metro this week by beating Denver Christian, 55-34. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Huskies.

Platte Canyon led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Crusaders. Hunter Grivna-Bode ran for 208 yards in the win.

Denver Christian's dynamic duo of Tate Kastens and Jacob Monsma proved tough for the Huskies to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kastens threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns and Monsma had 97 yards receiving. Forrest Sanderson helped Denver Christian's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 68 yards.

Drew Davis made the biggest impact on defense this week as Front Range Christian bested Clear Creek. The 5-foot-11 sophomore recorded three fumbles and grabbed one sack.

Troy Vanden Broeke's team's Kastens and Sanderson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Kastens has thrown for 1216 yards this season, while Sanderson, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 35 catches for 454 yards. Platte Canyon's Grivna-Bode leads the league in rushing yards with 1462.

The Huskies' Jake Robl is a mere 61 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 117 carries Robl has accumulated 939 yard this year.

A big matchup in 1A Metro this week will be when the Crusaders take on Lyons. Denver Christian is currently in third, while the Lions are in second.
