Recap: West Haven Blue Devils vs. Staples Wreckers
The West Haven Blue Devils and the Staples Wreckers squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the West Haven Blue Devils had to settle for second. They and the Wreckers were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered an agonizing 21-20 defeat. Despite 85 more yards than Staples, West Haven couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
West Haven's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Conlan, who threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Armani Reid was another key contributor, picking up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
It was another big night for Caleb Smith, who rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns for Staples. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last six times he's played.
West Haven's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Staples, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 12-1.
West Haven does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Staples also has no future games currently scheduled.
