Football Recap: Mount Vernon's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Rusk came into Friday's match looking for another win against Mount Vernon, but Dawson Witherspoon wouldn't allow it. The Tigers walked away with a 33-21 victory over the Eagles on Friday with plenty of help from Witherspoon, who rushed for 304 yards and two scores while picking up 12.2 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run.

Despite the loss, Rusk still got an impressive performance from Drew Lane, who rushed for 78 yards and one TD on only eight carries. Adrian Tumblin also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.

Mount Vernon has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 44.0 points this season. As for Rusk, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Mount Vernon has already played their next game, a 41-34 loss against Pottsboro on the 12th. As for Rusk, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 27-20 defeat against Diboll on the 12th.
