Baseball Game Preview: Southwest Guilford Cowboys vs. Northwest Guilford Vikings

The Southwest Guilford Cowboys will head out to square off against the Northwest Guilford Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwest Guilford has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight defeats, while Northwest Guilford will come in with three straight wins.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Southwest Guilford's offense. They lost 9-0 to First Colonial on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwest Guilford). They blew past Dudley 24-4 on Wednesday. Considering the Vikings have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brady Smith looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Nic Turner was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Northwest Guilford: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Quentin Wehrenberg was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.

Northwest Guilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Southwest Guilford's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Northwest Guilford, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southwest Guilford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northwest Guilford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Southwest Guilford suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to Northwest Guilford when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
