Baseball Recap: St. Augustine's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

While St. Augustine's victory against Fernandina Beach wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. St. Augustine never let Fernandina Beach get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Yellow Jackets as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

The result came thanks to Xavier Ahr's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Augustine is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jordan Petty was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

St. Augustine's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Fernandina Beach, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Augustine will face off against Matanzas at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Augustine is facing Matanzas at the right time seeing as Matanzas is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Fernandina Beach, they will challenge Keystone Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fernandina Beach's pitchers better be ready for this one: Keystone Heights has averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
