Preview: Carroll Eagles vs. Ashford Yellowjackets
The Carroll Eagles will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Ashford Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. Carroll has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
Last Tuesday, Carroll sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-42 win over the Bulldogs.
Carroll's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Culver, who scored 13 points along with two steals and two blocks. Culver hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Devon Pruitt was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Ashford's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Providence Christian, falling 68-31. While losing is never fun, Ashford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while the Eagles are ranked 130th).
Carroll has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Ashford, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-13.
Carroll didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Yellowjackets when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 65-60 win. Does Carroll have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
