Soccer Recap: Deer Valley Takes a Loss

If Deer Valley was feeling good fresh off their 4-0 takedown of Thunderbird back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. 2025 welcomed the Deer Valley Skyhawks with a 10-2 loss courtesy of the Gila Ridge Hawks on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Skyhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Hawks are ranked 19th).

Tori Wefel-Hayes wasn't going to let Gila Ridge walk away unscathed as she scored both of Deer Valley's goals, bringing her season total up to seven goals.

The loss snapped Deer Valley's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record. As for Gila Ridge, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Deer Valley didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next match, a 2-2 draw against Verrado on the 4th. As for Gila Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and have already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Shadow Ridge on the 4th.
