Preview: Pittsburg Pirates vs. Paris Wildcats
Pittsburg is 0-10 against Paris since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pittsburg has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28.
Pittsburg suffered their biggest loss since December 27, 2023 on Friday. Their tough 58-35 loss to Pleasant Grove might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Pittsburg has suffered against Pleasant Grove since January 26, 2021.
Meanwhile, Paris didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Liberty-Eylau on Friday, but they still walked away with a 57-51 win. Given Paris' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while Liberty-Eylau is ranked 803rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pittsburg has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Paris, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8.
Pittsburg was dealt a bruising 79-47 defeat at the hands of Paris when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Pittsburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
