Softball Recap: La Joya Coyotes vs. Nixon Mustangs

La Joya extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-8. They came up short against the Nixon Mustangs, falling 15-3. The Coyotes were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in February of 2025.

Alexia Guajardo made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run. Merelly Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

As for Nixon, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.

On Nixon's side, Valeria Lara spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Yaritza Ramos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Guerrero, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, La Joya will face off against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Nixon, they will head out on the road to challenge Edinburg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
